Roses and Rue was a collaborative project that merged the creative processes of poetry and painting . The exhibition consisted of 6 altar shaped paintings and  a sculptural installation of a funeral pyre. The work was installed in the Old Brick Church. This historic landmark is one of the few surviving pre-civil war structures located in Iowa City, IA. The reception included a reading of the text by the poet Kiley McLaughlin. Support was provided by the Iowa Arts Council, a division of the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Kiley McLaughlin grew up in Somerville, Massachusetts, and holds a BA in English from Harvard College, as well as an MFA in Poetry from the Iowa Writers' Workshop.
